The leading lady of this 1943 movie is Nancy Kelly, about whom Dick Cavett told Kliph Nesteroff that she had never made a movie before the 1956 production of "The Bad Seed" and was projecting too much for the camera because she was a Broadway actress. She had done the part on Broadway so there probably was something to the story but she was quite a film veteran by '56, having been a leading lady by the late 1930s and already made 34 movies, playing huge roles in most of them (like this one). Her younger brother Jack Kelly, by the way, played Bart Maverick in the 1957-1962 TV series "Maverick" with James Garner and Roger Moore. Jack and Nancy Kelly looked so much alike that she could never guest star on her brother's show since Bart Maverick had two brothers and a cousin, but no sister.
