The David Letterman Show (1980) - Footage Offline - 03/03/10
Letterman's morning show was far better than the nighttime version. I still look back at it with fondness; he was funny and inviting without being cynical.
David Letterman's very first talk show following his arrival in New York from his native Indiana was a very short-lived one. Featuring a daily news update with the late Edwin Newman, this Monday-through- Friday chatfest featured optimistic guests, funny opening monologues and rousing opening and closing theme compositions. It wasn't too long since Letterman switch talk-show dayparts from daytime to late night, when NBC helped launched Late Night with David Letterman in the mid-1980s. Letterman was succeeded by Conan O'Brien, who fills in current host Jay Leno's shoes next June, and Jimmy Fallon.

Thanks for posting this. I remember Letterman's morning show and I also remember some of the commercials!
