Keeping with the Letterman in the seventies theme, here's David on two separate episodes of Dick Clark's $20,000 Pyramid. Two segments from episodes in 1978 and 1979. On the first clip we see him once again with all-purpose celebrity game show contestant Joanne Worley. Check the comments section for helpful details courtesy a friendly reader.
Another clip from a different episode, notice David's striking resemblance to Quentin Tarantino:

Correction...David Letterman started appearing on "The $20,000 Pyramid" in the fall of 1978. The actual dates of those clips are as follows:
1. The Winner's Circle round playing with Jo Anne Worley was broadcast on Friday, August 10, 1979.
2. The main game round as receiving a clue for "Timetable" was originally aired on Wednesday, December 13, 1978 (from his first week on-air appearence).
Those classic "$20,000 Pyramid" episodes with Letterman were shown as part of GSN's "Game Show Saturday Night Marathon" of March 10, 2001.
