The Smart Alecks with host Allen Ludden and guests Pat Carroll and David Letterman (1977)
One part "Shark Tank", one part "Liar's Club". While Ludden and the celebrities do their best to entertain the audience, the concept is executed in a clumsy fashion which makes it understandable why the pilot didn't get picked up.
Ludden first met David Letterman in Indianapolis in the mid-1970s, and when Dave moved to LA later on, Password producer Bob Stewart chose Dave to host an unfortunate game show pilot, THE RIDDLERS.
