From a May 9, 1954 New York Times profile:

... [Keaton] went to London to play his first serious role. It is in a half-hour TV film being made by Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Keaton is supposed to be a government official who becomes disillusioned with the work he is doing in a police state. Keaton is not sure why he, a slapstick comedian, was chosen for the part. "The novelty of it, I guess," he says. ...
