The general format of his show has not changed in 30 years.
That's way it's so easy to see how much funnier that show is without Paul Schaffer.
Man, this show rocked my unemployed ass back in the day. Edie McClurg and Rich Hall used to appear on the show and do bits with Dave. Thanks for posting this! I have some old VHS in my Archives of the ads that ran before his late night debut. Will have to digitize them and get 'em up. They were aired during a Billy Crystal show (special?) with guest star Robin Williams.

Yes, Shaffer is brutal but Letterman is very loyal. Hence, Shaffer.
Letterman's morning show was way funnier than his nighttime series either on NBC or CBS.
