Archie (1964)

Well how about this. The failed attempt at turning Archie Comics into a sitcom from 1964. The pilot never got picked up. And don't forget to check out my never-ending cataloguing of the best and worst items ever sent to The Archie Club News.

HI, is the actor who played jughead listed anywhere?

What's really horrible about this one is how terrible they got Jughead's personality. Jughead doesn't like girls. He prefers food. It seems to me like they just combined him with lothario Reggie just to save paying for one more actor's paycheck. FAIL!

There were at least two other live-action Archie attempts -- one TV special c. 1978 on ABC, and a horrid TV-movie from 1990 with Christopher Rich (where Archie and his gang are grown-up returning to Riverdale for a high school reunion).

The Archie comics were consciously patterned after the Andy Hardy movies of the 1930-1940s. Live-action Archie programs come off as second- or third-generation Andy Hardy flicks.

Oops! Archie's not the same w/out the checkerboard on his head. And yes, Jughead seems to be someone else. Have you seen the 'new' Betty and Veronica? They even have a blog!

Too bad it wasn't a series. It looked pretty good for back then. However, Jughead was out of character. I remember another live Archie show in the 1970's. It was like a comedy variety show. If you know where I can see video from it please let me know.
