My God, John Vernon was like a bad rash all over the '75 season! As long as he was hanging around they should have got him to play the principal on Kotter instead of that rumpled little gnome guy. "When Things Were Rotten" was hilarious when I was nine years old. Almost as funny as "Hong Kong Phooey".
The same year, NBC debuted what was then called "NBC Saturday Night", which later became SNL - "Saturday Night Live".
Cosell's show didn't last long- while NBC Saturday Night obviously caught in. But I remember that even back then, everybody referred to the NBC show as "Saturday Night Live". So NBC eventually changed the name to that.
