The Real Life Version of A Face in the Crowd: Jimmy Dean (1957 - ?)

Watch this remarkable bout of on-air testiness. I believe this happened while the Budd Schulberg - Elia Kazan work A Face in the Crowd was still playing theaters. Although, it might actually be 1959. Either way it feels like Jimmy Dean is playing Lonesome Rhodes in a teleplay of the film.

  1. OMG This is incredible! Good observation. The resemblance is uncanny.

  2. So what happened? I've never heard of an incident where Jimmy Dean dumped a pile of soap into the living room of the president of Lever Bros. Looks like it didn't work. Maybe that's why he diversified and went into making sausage.

  3. I was expecting the Dusty Rhodes at the end when he didn't know the mic was live. This was Dusty pitching those mattresses near the beginning.

  4. According to Wikipedia, this Dean show left the air in June 1959 so I guess he didn't get enough soap. Still after this came his hit "Big Bad John" and his ABC prime time series so he made out okay. I wonder if Lever Brothers was a sponsor for the later series.

P.S. The Face In The Crowd character is named Lonesome Rhodes, not Dusty.
