Kliph Nesteroff Presents "a portal into a previously unseen world" - The Guardian
"Invaluable" - The Onion AV Club
"Important" - John Hodgman, The Daily Show
I produce and direct local tv in long beach, ca and had Cliff on a program for one hour. He was the best. But he said he had no copies of The Funny Manns. He did bring some GREAT Dave Garroway footage from his stint in Chicago in 1949. What an awesome guy Cliff Norton was!
For me, the main attraction of The Funny Manns was the music. It was catchy, very funny, and creative. Who was responsible for this music, and can it be found on CD?
I agree with Michael Fleischmann: the music was an inspired combination of mixed-timbre writing with unusual combinations of instruments. It would float insipidly one minute, then take off at shred tempos the next. Totally unpredictable. Someone must know who the composer/producer was, yes?
Thanks for this info, I've had that catchphrase "WHO'S THE FUNNY MAN?" I'm glad you asked that question..." in my head since I was a kid back in the 60's, and over the years have searched to no avail for any info about the program. Finally turning up!! Also agree the music as well as the obviously added sound effects are quite effective and funny.
