Probably never had friends. Prob picked on or worse was the one picking on others or sticking fire crackers up frogs butts. I think if the shows were so horrible why us it that there are countless people constantly trying to find them online and watching them over and over. I have been collecting them for years. I loved them in the 70s when i was a kid and the stuff is still funny. This guy is prob the sob that gets tv sit coms cancelled after 2 episodes. About empty chairs ive gotta call bullshit. They show the crowd and sometimes go out into the audience or pan across. Find another job. Try proctology youd be perfect for it. The author of this piece has an axe to grind and a book to sell. He evidently did not understand or choose to recognize the fact that television production is NOT done in sequence. While there was probably nothing nefarious, I am not sure Nick had an ax to grind. I have never read the book, but I understand it was really a good book. No doubt a lot of people liked the show as it was on for a fairly long time. However the public can be really stupid when it comes to shows as so many really good shows are canceled after a year.sanfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06580867647162091670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-20832941897116012082015-05-12T21:34:53.780-07:002015-05-12T21:34:53.780-07:00The production was hokey. the set. the pre-taped s...The production was hokey. the set. the pre-taped segments, and laughter. But Rickles and Johnathon Winters were extremely funny, and the humor was politically incorrect. But harmless. The Comedy Central Roasts are a much superior production, but the content sucks, most of the comics don't even know who they are roasting, and are cruel rather than funny. Nick, I think is the sad one. He evidently did not understand or choose to recognize the fact that television production is NOT done in sequence.

There was no evil conspiracy or nefarious plot on the part of Dean Martin, Greg Garrison, or NBC. It's how TV shows are made even today.

As to the quality of the production and the jokes, now that is, as always, subjective. However, the fact was that the roasts apparently did well enough in the ratings that NBC was pleased and/or desperate enough to order more episodes for most of a decade.

Personally, I always found them entertaining. It was nice to see so many of the comedians who otherwise were unseen on TV anymore except for these roasts. I would point to the episode roasting Jackie Gleason as one of the best.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
