We've been trying to locate an audio recording he did of the Twelve Days of Christmas. It used to play on the radio at Christmas time. My husband copied it onto his reel-to-reel but the tape is so old now we can no longer play it. We have his "A Christmas Carol" VCR tape - but we'd really love to find this audio recording. Little spoke about this in a December 1978 article in the Canadian TV GUIDE, when he was promoting his new TV version, "RICH LITTLE'S CHRISTMAS CAROL." He had just finished shooting and editing it in Canada.

Keith ScottKeith Scottnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-4549263023389180632011-08-03T22:03:28.313-07:002011-08-03T22:03:28.313-07:00ARGH! It's about "Scrooge and the Stars".

I distinctly remember a TV interview in which he talked about the album. He did JFK for the Ghost of Christmas Present. He said the album first appeared in stores on the morning of Nov. 22, 1963, the day JFK was assassinated. This was eerie because the GOCP/JFK has the line, "My time upon the Earth is brief. In fact, it ends tonight."

Because of this, they had to recall the album and re-record JFK's part with a different impression. However, a few albums had already been sold and are now out there somewhere (I recently ran across an MP3 of that recording).

Now I've been unable to verify any of that on the Web. But the story made a huge impression on me because it was so incredible. I'd love to know if my memory is accurate and any of the above is true.Nate Whilkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03309570046510278367noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-67802480642649465662011-08-02T06:30:46.596-07:002011-08-02T06:30:46.596-07:00Hot on the heels of Will Jordan's remarks abou...Hot on the heels of Will Jordan's remarks about Rich Little (from your recent interview), we now get the first installment of a conversation with Little himself!

Marvelous stuff! You should do an article on him for the WFMU blog!

You obviously did thorough research on the man, to his surprise. As a result, you may have fired up his memory, because once he gets talking, he recalls quite a bit.

As for the bottle routine where Little drank potions that "changed" his voice, I saw a Hollywood Palace performance of it recently (as a bonus feature on MPI's The Rich Little Show DVD set). In my view, the gimmickry of the setup wore thin quick, affecting the enjoyment of his better impressions. Ed Sullivan was right about it being bad!

I look forward to the next installments!R.A.M.'67https://www.blogger.com/profile/12817535165296807817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-12452002532639560222011-08-02T00:22:34.445-07:002011-08-02T00:22:34.445-07:00Wow, Kliph, as Rich Little said, you certainly do ...Wow, Kliph, as Rich Little said, you certainly do your research!

Now let me tell you something. I would say the year was about 1963. That's 48 years ago! My god! But I remember Rich Little's bottled water act on the Jackie Gleason show as if it were yesterday. In my mind, I can see him doing it now. I am SO glad that he mentioned that act. In fact, I always knew that if I ran into Rich Little, I would mention that exact act. It really wasn't too creative of an act. But he did a lot of voices and it was very entertaining. (Frank Gorshin, on the other hand, had better and more creative material. Gorshin's 1964 Ed Sullivan appearance was on youtube a while back, but I can't find it anymore. It was the best impressionists spot I have ever seen.) But Rich Little did the best Jack Benny you could imagine and it's good to know that Benny appreciated Rich Little's great talent as an impressionist.

And who knew that Gleason had such ill feelings towards Ed Sullivan. But, from what I've read just here, it does seem that Sullivan could be difficult to work for. And he does come off as quite a dunce. So I can appreciate Gleason's feelings towards him.

I can't wait for part 2. And keep 'em coming Kliph!

P.s. I love how, interview after interview, you know more about your subject's career than they do -- and how shocked they are at this fact!

Kliph, I can't wait for part 2 of this interview.Bobby Wallnoreply@blogger.com
