I had been vaguely aware of his existence before that, but had never seen/heard him. The man KILLED. He made a fan for life outta me.

As for some of his apparently controversial assessments of other comics... you see this sort of thing with old(er) people in general - they all have their "unique perspectives." They "were there," and they remember what they remember... or maybe what they think they remember. It happens. As for his comments on Woody Allen, Kliph's book (good one, btw) makes it clear that Woody WASN'T a good performer when he started his stand-up career. Obviously he got better, but maybe Prof. Corey missed that. Presumably he agreed with Irwin's assessment.

2) Never read a sentence about Ed Sullivan in which he doesn't sound like a bona fide dick. No surprise there.

3) Dean and Jerry both would have done just fine if they had never met. However, they did, and created a sensation for a few years. But that sensation was a pretty corny act that no one really cares about 50 years later in the light of the stuff each did after breaking up.

And where'd you score that snap of Irwin with Andy Shernoff, Marky and Joey Ramone?
