He was amazing. His character had a huge, hilarious monologue near the end, wrapping up all the details unexplained until then. He had the audience in the palm of his hand and earned a round of applause as it ended. Very impressive as a comic for someone I'd known only as a straight man until then.BruceBnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-29271789601551906392012-09-22T13:03:43.616-07:002012-09-22T13:03:43.616-07:00Real name was Ralph Pierre LaCock. The "master" of the Hollywood Squares, indeed.

Regarding Ben Lessy: I think he was a regular, or at least a semiregular, during the early years of "Make Room for Daddy" -- perhaps the episodes where Jean Hagen played the wife.

And by the way, congrats on the Grove Press deal. I don't think there's anyone alive who knows more about that era and who knows more people and has more stories. You could literally do a whole book with Jerry. One only hopes that he would be amenable and open up freely.Bobby Wallnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-38089473413139782562012-09-20T14:52:15.599-07:002012-09-20T14:52:15.599-07:00Thanks alot for this Kliph.
