We hung out there in summers when we were studing acting in NYC. 17 years old going on 30 I think. It was so much fun talking and hanging out with these talents.Jordana Sandshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01003612300454920264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-91015334316357764832012-08-18T02:05:53.757-07:002012-08-18T02:05:53.757-07:00The "I'm with YOU" comic Will refers...The "I'm with YOU" comic Will refers to is Stan Ross whom I believe is still alive. He was a stooge for Gleason on TV, did small character parts n major films like WHAT'S UP DOC? and had the lead as a kind of "Buster Keaton's evil twin" in THE SEXPERT.Bookstevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09797445163866512849noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-27649479931010938852012-08-17T23:41:43.389-07:002012-08-17T23:41:43.389-07:00I see I goofed above... this site is classicshowbi...I see I goofed above... this site is classicshowbiz.blogspot.com. This site is an historical record of major proportions of a certain time and place in show business history. I wish this site came with a discussion board. What goes on here at this site is priceless (as King of Jazz says above). We're getting information here that can't be found anywhere else. Just look at the list of all those interviewed here. I'm thinking about all those early Johnny Carson Tonight Show shows that are wiped out. I hope this never happens to this site. It's too damned important! It belongs in the Smithsonian at some point. Sounds like it was recorded in front of a small audience. Someone yelled out the initials of a silent movie star, "LWS." Gould couldn't get the answer and guessed, "Lawrence Welk's Son!" He also used the "We don't know yet; it's not definite" line in describing the supposed prizes if someone stumped him.
Barry Mitchellhttp://www.barryfunny.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-46773109683845859602012-08-17T09:17:54.798-07:002012-08-17T09:17:54.798-07:00More good stuff. He'd appear while the audience was lined up at the box office, do comedic bits like he was the show "manager", then appear in different costumes, up and down the aisles, onstage. Theater critics like Robert Benchley said he was the funniest man on Broadway.

His costumes were absurdly witty, with fez, too-tight suit, or exaggerated business attire. He would spout non-sequitors or surreal gags on current events, crazier than any "post-modern" comic of today.

Of course, no one captured this on film, so all of this brilliance is lost forever, except in the descriptions of admiring critics.

Yes, in his day, he was the wildest, most inventive comic in town. W.C. Fields once knocked him on his head with a pool cue for upstaging him during his billiard routine.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-69377054241591923642012-08-17T06:28:25.362-07:002012-08-17T06:28:25.362-07:00That wasn't Mel in "Cocktails for Two&quo...That wasn't Mel in "Cocktails for Two"- there's a Spike Jones show, "Clink, Clink , Another Drink" that Mel is prominently featured in, you can find it on the YouTube.

great interview Kliph!
A Moosenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2398796842887862508.post-40382735628004338252012-08-17T05:51:16.246-07:002012-08-17T05:51:16.246-07:00Wow.
