Network Nights (1966)

Again, I wish I could embed these, but some kind of coding beyond my scope of knowledge prevents it from working. This stuff plays fine on the brightcove.tv site but not here. Well, just follow the links, it's worth it.

Now, a night of prime time television in 1966 on ABC starts with a color episode of Ozzie and Harriet brought to you by Pepto Bismal. After a promo for F-Troop we get to watch an episode of The Patty Duke Show sponsored by Nabisco and featuring guest star Troy Donahue.

Then over to CBS starting with a promo for The Munsters and a color episode of The Beverly Hillbillies followed by Green Acres. Up next is a ridiculous advertisement promoting Radio Free Europe followed by the best sitcom of the period, The Dick Van Dyke Show. The episode features one of the great, unsung comedians of the nineteen sixties, Mr. Godfrey Cambridge. NBC has the final line-up of the evening. On the same night in '66 you could see Nancy Kulp on The Beverly Hillbillies and Robert Culp on I Spy. Although on a competeing network, I Spy was a Desilu production, just like The Dick Van Dyke Show, and featured the same crew: Sheldon Leonard, Ron Jacobs and Earl Hagen, in their familiar positions. Check out this great evening of old TV here.
